Dr. Amartya Sen has been granted an honorary doctorate (“doctor honoris causa”) of Economics from Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV). The degree was awarded on June 2004 on proposal of the Department of Economics and the recommendation of Dr. Agustí Segarra, in recognition of his accomplishments and outstanding contributions in the fields of social choice, income distribution and poverty, and economic development.
