Bernd Theilen is full professor at Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV). He has a bachelor degree in economics from the University of Kiel and a Master in Economic Analysis degree from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. From March 2008 until October 2009 he was a member of the dean's office and responsible for undergraduate studies in economics where he collaborated in the design of the new Bologna Study Programs. He has been Director of the Department of Economics at URV, from 2009 to 2017.

He has a PhD in Economics from the Christian-Albrechts University of Kiel. His thesis analyzed contract and organizational design under asymmetric information.

He has published articles in international journals on topics such as contract and organizational design under asymmetric information, information exchange in oligopoly and international comparisons of health care expenditure. He also has participated in several projects of knowledge transfer such as, for example, a cost-benefit analysis of the connection of the Port of Tarragona to the European Railway System.
