Research

The professors of the Department of Economics belong to four research groups of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili: Economic Analysis and Health (GRAES), Industry and Territory (GRIT), Organization and Economic Decision (GRODE) and Quantitative, Urban and Regional Economics (QURE). All of them are recognized by the autonomous government of Catalonia, and their members have obtained numerous competitive research projects.

To promote interdisciplinary research in 2010, the Research Centre in Industrial and Public Economics (CREIP) was created. Most of the members of CREIP belong to the Department of Economics. The research groups, CREIP and the department itself organize jointly a weekly Seminar and promote a scientific debate by means of a series of Working Papers.

The scientific production of the Department of Economics has increased substantially, not only from a quantitative point of view, but - and especially - from a qualitative point of view. In the last five years more than one hundred articles have been published in international journals (JCR), many of them of indisputable prestige, as for example Journal of Econometrics, Journal of Economic History, Journal of Economic Literature, Journal of Finance, Journal of Health Economics, Journal of International Economics, Journal of Labor Economics, Journal of Mathematical Economics, Journal of Public Economics, Journal of the European Economic Association, RAND Journal of Economics, Review of Economics and Statistics or Social Choice and Welfare.

In the area of the knowledge transfer (third mission), the members of the Department of Economics have also shown an intense activity. There exists a long tradition of collaborations with different public institutions. Recently this tendency has culminated by the creation of the Chair for the Promotion of Business Innovation, the Chair of Local and Regional Economy, and the Observatory of Employment, all three directed by members of the Department of Economics.
